Fisker Automotive unveils the Atlantic

Fisker Automotive has unveiled its new plug-in vehicle at the New York International Auto Show, as it struggles to recover from setbacks with its Karma sedan.

The brand unveiled a prototype of the new Fisker Atlantic plug-in hybrid at the press preview of the New York show, promising that it would be less expensive and more fuel efficient than the $103,000 Karma.

The four-door model is aimed at young families and will feature a similar powertrain type to the Karma and Chevrolet Volt, with a gasoline engine which kicks in to generate electricity when the vehicle’s on-board batteries run low.

The design of the prototype is similarly extreme as the Karma sedan, with a glass roof, long-wheelbase and a large grille at the front, with dimensions comparable to that of the Audi A5.

Tom LaSorda, Fisker’s CEO, said that the Atlantic was part of a process that would see Fisker “transitioning from a start-up automaker to a fully-fledged mainstream car manufacturer.”

Production of the Atlantic is expected to begin at the end of the summer, LaSorda told reporters in New York, with pricing unconfirmed.

2013 Koenigsegg Agera/R

Every time you hear the name Koenigsegg, you can bet that the Earth beneath you trembles a little bit. The rumble increases even more with the introduction of the 2013 models of the Agera and Agera R. Both updates will feature more horsepower (as if the stock wasn’t overflowing already). It achieves this through nano surfaces on the cylinder sleeves to reduce friction and for better fuel efficiency. If you must know, the Agera now has 960hp while the Agera R has a mind-boggling 1,140. Both models will come with a carbon fiber body, strengthened with Koenigsegg’s Aircore Technology, supported by carbon fiber wheels on a Triplex suspension and steadied by the Koenigsegg Electronic Stability system. $TBD.

Bentley Introduces Executive Interior for Mulsanne

Bentley has announced plans to offer a new executive interior package on the Mulsanne. The package offers two different specifications: Theater and iPad. The theater option includes a roof-mounted 15.6-inch LED display or two headrest-mounted 8-inch screens. There’s also a trunk-mounted Apple computer that has dual USB ports in the center console. An iPod touch allows users to control all of the installed technology with their finger tip, by means of a bespoke Bentley app.

The iPad Specification comes with two electrically-deployed veneered picnic tables for rear passengers, colour-matched to the seats of the Mulsanne, and at the press of a button twin iPads with wireless keyboards are revealed. Both rear passengers can work on documents or files independently, email, browse the internet, make video calls or play music or games.

The picnic tables are cleverly designed so that the keyboards can be easily removed and placed on the user’s lap for added comfort. Both the Theatre and iPad Specifications of Mulsanne Executive Interior can be specified wîth a range of finishing touches including a Tibaldi fountain pen from its specially commissioned Collection.

If you’re not in the mood for work, there’s a bottle cooler with space for 2 champagne bottles, and a frosted glass door hides three hand blown champagne flutes! The Bentley Mulsanne Executive Interior will be making its debut appearance during the upcoming 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Ferrari has unveiled the fastest road-car it has ever produced, ahead of the vehicle’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18) The F12 Berlinetta can streak from 0-100km/h in 3.1 seconds and continue up to 200km/h in just 8.5 seconds, thanks to a host of powertrain and design changes. A futuristic bodyframe made out of new alloys has helped bring weight down to 1,525kg, less than the previous V12 Fiorano model, as well as increasing the structural integrity of the vehicle.

Underneath the hood is a 6.3-liter V12 that generates about 740 horsepower, Ferrari confirmed, more than its serious rival the Lamborghini Aventador. Extensive time in the wind tunnel has helped Ferrari boost downforce by 76 percent and significantly reduce drag, thanks to a hood design to channel air away from the top of the car and ‘Active Brake Cooling’, which only opens the guide vanes to the brake cooling ducts at high operating temperatures, reducing drag.
