World’s Most Expensive Tuna Sold at Auction

It’s really amazing how much people are willing to spend on exotic foods and delicacies. Overgrown truffles, old hams and other oddities manage to fetch thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollars. This time we present to you the world’s most expensive tuna, a 324 kilograms (712.8 pounds) ocean fish in Japan.

The giant delicacy was caught near Toi in Hokkaido, a freezing cold area this time of the year, but very rich in delicious bluefin tuna. The poor thing ended up being sold at an auction this Wednesday, and fetched a mind-boggling sum of 32.49 million yen, which translated into our money is about $400,000. Unsurprisingly, the buyer is a sushi bar in Tokyo.

2012 Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition

Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division is infamous for its snarling hot rods infused with track-focused fierceness, but that didn’t stop the two-wheeled world from scratching its collective head when the three-pointed star forged a marketing partnership with Ducati. The first material evidence of that unexpected collaboration is the Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition ($26,495), which inherits a few automotive-inspired cues from the four-wheeled realm: AMG’s signature five-spoke wheels, engraved exhaust tips, and a ribbed Alcantara saddle. The usual carbon trim comes together with a menacing white-on-black theme, and the Desmodromically-valved engine wears the engraved signature of its builder.

This handmade, precision-tuned, and discreetly styled ride begs to be parked next to its Mercedes-Benz complement, inviting enthusiastic comparisons to AMG products. The only kicker? Though certainly no slouch, this special edition packs the same 162 hp mill found in the standard Diavel, stirring the inevitable wish that more oomph had been massaged from the bike’s remarkable powerplant. Mark Wahlberg Opens Wahlburgers Restaurant!

Now you can get an even juicier Wahlberg fix -- at Wahlburgers! On Monday night in Hingham, Massachusetts, actor and producer Mark Wahlberg, 40, unveiled his new burger joint with older brothers Paul andDonnie, 42.

With Paul wearing the chef hat, the grand opening was a family affair as the brothers' invited mom Alma Elaine to join them on the red carpet. The restaurant's menu offers hamburgers with Paul's secret sauce, white bean and prosciutto soup, and Italian cold cut sandwiches (among other items).

The Wahlberg brothers faced a small battle in landing their desired name for the restaurant; "Wahlbergers" was previously the name of a fast food chain in upstate New York, where the burgers sold for $4.49.

Now that The Fighter star and his brothers are manning the meats, the burgers are just a few dollars more. The Wahlburgers' menu promises that dining in their restaurant will feel like a meal at the Wahlbergs'.

Tell Us: For $6.25, would you eat a 5 oz. burger with the "Wahl sauce and government cheese?"

2014 Audi e-tron Spyder Video

The Audi e-tron Spyder features what is without a doubt the most advanced and simultaneously the most consistent evolution of the current Audi design language, while also providing initial hints at the design language of future Audi sports cars. It reinterprets the most important design elements that already characterized the previous e-tron concept vehicles. This also ensures the necessary formal differentiation to the purely electric-powered Audi e-tron shown at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show. The two-seater is equipped with a 300-hp twin-turbo V6 TDI at the rear axle and two electric motors producing a total of 64 kW at the front axle. The Audi e-tron Spyder's low total weight of 3,196 lbs combined with the high-torque TDI and the two electric motors results in respectable performance. The car accelerates to 60 in less than 4.5 seconds, and top speed is electronically governed at 155 mph.

Branson opens world’s first ‘spaceport’ in New Mexico

Richard Branson on Monday opened the world’s first-ever commercial spaceport in the New Mexico desert, the new home for his company, Virgin Galactic. The eccentric businessman inaugurated the building by breaking a champagne bottle against a hanger building, while rappelling down the side of it.

“Spaceport America” awill serve “as the operating hub for Virgin Galactic and is expected to house up to two WhiteKnightTwos and five SpaceShipTwos, in addition to all of Virgins astronaut preparation facilities and mission control.”

About 150 people already booked for travel on the first flights to orbit attended the event, said the company. Also attending were head of Virgin Galactic George Whitesides, commercial director Stephen Attenborough, and famed US astronaut — and second human being to step on the moon — Buzz Aldrin.

Branson last month said he hoped to launch a vessel into space within the next 12 months, which he said would kick off an era of commercial space travel. “The mother ship is finished… The rocket tests are going extremely well, and so I think that we’re now on track for a launch within 12 months of today.”

“About an hour between Los Angeles and London is not completely out of the question,” Branson said, adding that it will likely take many years before the company can offer such a service. In the meantime, Virgin has sold some 430 tickets for space travel — at $200,000 a pop — for an estimated $86 million. A number of private companies are rushing to fill the gap left by NASA, which ended its 30-year shuttle program in July with the completion of the final Atlantis mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

Rolls Royce Phantom 102 EX Electrifies Dubai

made a brief stopover in Dubai as a part of its global tour. Experimental electric car, as Rolls Royce calls it, is the most significant step taken by the luxury car maker in its quest to pin down a technology that will put Rolls Royce on a sound footing for the future.

The global tour has one objective – carefully gauge the opinions and reactions of owners, enthusiasts, media and public about an electric Rolls Royce car, while at the same time, allow the R&D team to gather data on car’s performance across the globe.  Now that’s killing two birds with a single stone.

Talking to AutoMiddleEast.com, , Rolls Royce Regional Director for Middle East and Africa said that the Phantom 102 EX electric car is a working test bed and there are no plans to build a production version of the car as yet. The bank of research gathered from the global tour that includes Europe, Middle East, China, Singapore, Japan and North America will be crucial to deciding on use of electric propulsion systems in Rolls Royce cars.

Powering the Phantom 102EX experimental electric car is a stack of lithium ion batteries that deliver energy to two 145Kw electric motors mounted closer to rear seats of the car, there by allowing for a maximum power of 290Kw and a monstrous 800Nm torque. Pre launch tests suggest Phantom 102EX experimental electric car should run up to 200km, achieve 0-60mph in less than eight seconds and reach a top speed limited to 160kph.

Strikingly similar in its appearance to a conventional fuel powered Rolls Royce Phantom, illuminated in electric blue Spirit of Ecstasy sitting on top of the grille and a recharging plug instead of the standard fuel filler cap are two visible elements that tell tale of the 102Ex’s electric personality.

Rolls Royce is testing a technology called Induction charging with the Phantom 102EX that allows the car to be re-charged without the need to plug in any wires physically. There are two main elements to the induction charging system – a transfer pad on the ground that delivers power from the main source to the induction pad mounted under the car. The power transfer takes place wirelessly without any physical contact of the pads. All you need to do is park your car above the transfer pad and the charging starts automatically. How convenient!

Next, the car will be taken back to UK for a quick service before heading off to the eastern coast of North America for more testing. The global tour is expected to end by January 2012. Then on, the data collected from all around the globe will be analyzed and a decision made as to whether or not, electric luxury can be perfected or does it present an unacceptable compromise for Rolls Royce cars.

Jackson ‘Thriller’ jacket sells for $1.8 million

The red and black leather jacket worn by Michael Jackson in his “Thriller” video went under the hammer for $1.8 million on Sunday. The jacket has “Love Michael Jackson” written on the sleeve, and a dedication in the lining to his long-time costume designers, to whom he gave it. The buyer was identified as Milton Verret, a commodities trader from Austin Texas, who plans to have the jacket tour and be displayed at children’s hospitals around the globe to raise money for their children’s charities.

The auctioneer described the jacket as “among the most recognizable and famous garments of the 20th century,” saying it sparked a 1980s fashion craze when it was copied and sold to adoring Jackson fans worldwide. “The black and red style of the jacket became so identifiable with Jackson’s groundbreaking (video) that he continued to use jackets of the same design when performing the song ‘Thriller’ for the duration of his career,” it said. The jacket is one of two which Jackson used during the ghoulishly iconic video, the other being on display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

World’s biggest raw emerald on display

A massive uncut emerald on exhibit in Colombia’s capital is being touted by its owners as the biggest in the world, officials said Saturday. The 11,000-karat raw green gem weighs in at 2.27 kilos (almost five pounds) and is on show in Bogota 12 years after it was mined in Muzo, in the South American nation’s emerald country in Boyaca province. “It is priceless,” Santiago Soto, spokesman for the Minergemas 2011 gem industry trade fair under way in Bogota, said of the stone owned by the firm Coexminas. No more than 15 people at a time are allowed to view the stone, with five guards looking on. Colombia produces 55 percent of the world’s emeralds, exporting them for about $200 million a year.

10,000 Free Round-Trip Tickets to Japan

If you’ve ever wanted to visit Japan, this may be your chance.

In a desperate attempt to lure tourists back to a country plagued by radiation fears and constant earthquakes, the Japan Tourism Agency‘s proposed an unprecedented campaign – 10,000 free roundtrip tickets.

The catch is, you need to publicize your trip on blogs and social media sites.

The number of foreign visitors to Japan has dropped drastically, since a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami triggered a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Power plant in March. Nearly 20,000 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 80,000 remain displaced because of radiation concerns. In the first three months following the triple disasters, the number of foreign visitors to Japan was cut in half, compared with the same time in 2010. The strong Japanese currency has made matters worse.

The tourism agency says it plans to open a website to solicit applicants interested in the free tickets. Would- be visitors will have to detail in writing their travel plans in Japan, and explain what they hope to get out of the trip. Successful applicants would pay for their own accommodation and meals. They would also be required to write a review their travel experiences, and post it online.

“We are hoping to get highly influential blogger-types, and others who can spread the word that Japan is a safe place to visit,” said Kazuyoshi Sato, with the agency.

The agency has requested more than a billion yen to pay for the tourism blitz. If lawmakers approve the funding, Sato says visitors could begin signing up as early as next April.

Feds take on clinic in NoHo, elsewhere

The federal government announced Friday it will crack down on medical marijuana dispensaries in California -- a campaign prompted, in part, by the explosive growth of clinics like one in North Hollywood that generated some $14 million in eight months.

Six people from NoHo Caregivers have been charged with trafficking. Also, criminal actions were filed against a warehouse facility in Orange County and stores in Lake Forest, Dana Point, Laguna Hills, Rancho Santa Margarita and in Riverside County and the Inland Empire.

The U.S. attorneys from Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco and San Diego said they have sent letters to dozens of dispensaries ordering them to shut down in 45 days and warning that they and their landlords could face criminal charges and have their assets seized.

The actions represent the latest effort to enforce federal laws and challenge California's 15-year-old, voter-approved measure that allows the sale of marijuana as a medical treatment.

Authorities say California's Proposition 215 was never intended to give rise to massive moneymaking operations that they equate with drug trafficking. Instead, it was written to allow small collectives that did not make profits.

"It is important to note that for-profit, commercial marijuana operations are illegal not only under federal law, but also under California law," U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said at a news conference in Sacramento. "While California law

permits collective cultivation of marijuana in limited circumstances, it does not allow commercial distribution through the store-front model we see across California."

In the North Hollywood case, federal officials said, investigators intercepted encrypted Blackberry messages detailing plans for the payment and distribution of marijuana. One email estimated the principals would each receive more than $194,000 a month.

The defendants in the case were identified as Paul A. Montoya, 37, of Arleta; Noah Josh Kleinman, 36, of Santa Clarita; Kathy Thabet, 25, of Los Angeles; James Stanley, 33, of Grass Valley, Bryant Satson, 43, of Pennsylvania, and Casey Wheat, 40, of Huntington Beach.

Efforts to contact the defendants or their attorneys were unsuccessful.

Special Assistant City Attorney Jane Usher said Los Angeles officials have been working with the federal government on the investigation.

"What we have found is that a disproportionate number of operations are commercial," Usher said, adding that city officials believe they could be connected to Mexican drug cartels.

"It's one of those things where we begin hearing the same story a half a dozen different times," Usher said. "No one will tell you where the product came from."

The city has had a difficult time developing regulations. The City Council approved a measure that would impose a cap of 70 dispensaries, with a grandfather clause including an additional 30.

However, the city's law was contested in court and no dispensaries have been through the process the city adopted.

A separate court case involving a Long Beach measure regulating the clinics has been thrown out, with a judge saying the federal government has pre-empted the city over marijuana laws.

Kris Hermes, spokesman for the pro-medical marijuana group Americans for Safe Access, said the federal enforcement action came as a surprise.

"Clearly, there is heightened enforcement, but it is a continuation of similar attacks by the Obama administration over the last six months," Hermes said.

"We think it is an abuse of their discretion and how they are choosing to use taxpayers dollars."

Councilman Bill Rosen- dahl, who has been the most outspoken on the City Council about the issue, said he believes it is up to Congress to deal with the issue.

"It is time for our members in Congress to show some guts and step up and legalize marijuana," Rosendahl said. "This is absolutely ludicrous. At this time, the last thing we should be doing is going after marijuana.

"Alcohol is legal. Marijuana should be legal. We are wasting $70 billion a year on drug enforcement, and it is a war we will never win. We should legalize it, tax it and put this behind us. We spend more on incarceration than we do on education."

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs dies at 56

(CNN) -- Steve Jobs, the visionary in the black turtleneck who co-founded Apple in a Silicon Valley garage, built it into the world's leading tech company and led a mobile-computing revolution with wildly popular devices such as the iPhone, died Wednesday. He was 56.

The hard-driving executive pioneered the concept of the personal computer and of navigating them by clicking onscreen images with a mouse. In more recent years, he introduced the iPod portable music player, the iPhone and the iPad tablet -- all of which changed how we consume content in the digital age.

Fortune: Ten ways Steve Jobs changed the world

His friends and Apple fans on Wednesday night mourned the passing of a tech titan.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives," Apple said in a statement. "The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

See reactions from Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and many others

More than one pundit, praising Jobs' ability to transform entire industries with his inventions, called him a modern-day Leonardo Da Vinci.

"Steve Jobs is one of the great innovators in the history of modern capitalism," New York Times columnist Joe Nocera said in August. "His intuition has been phenomenal over the years."

Jobs' death, while dreaded by Apple's legions of fans, was not unexpected. He had battled cancer for years, took a medical leave from Apple in January and stepped down as chief executive in August because he could "no longer meet (his) duties and expectations."

Born February 24, 1955, and then adopted, Jobs grew up in Cupertino, California -- which would become home to Apple's headquarters -- and showed an early interest in electronics. As a teenager, he phoned William Hewlett, president of Hewlett-Packard, to request parts for a school project. He got them, along with an offer of a summer job at HP.

Jobs dropped out of Oregon's Reed College after one semester, although he returned to audit a class in calligraphy, which he says influenced Apple's graceful, minimalist aesthetic. He quit one of his first jobs, designing video games for Atari, to backpack across India and take psychedelic drugs. Those experiences, Jobs said later, shaped his creative vision.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future," he told Stanford University graduates during a commencement speech in 2005. "You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

View a time line of Steve Jobs' work

While at HP, Jobs befriended Steve Wozniak, who impressed him with his skill at assembling electronic components. The two later joined a Silicon Valley computer hobbyists club, and when he was 21, Jobs teamed with Wozniak and two other men to launch Apple Computer Inc.

It's long been Silicon Valley legend: Jobs and Wozniak built their first commercial product, the Apple 1, in Jobs' parents' garage in 1976. Jobs sold his Volkswagen van to help finance the venture. The primitive computer, priced at $666.66, had no keyboard or display, and customers had to assemble it themselves.

The following year, Apple unveiled the Apple II computer at the inaugural West Coast Computer Faire. The machine was a hit, and the personal computing revolution was under way.

Jobs was among the first computer engineers to recognize the appeal of the mouse and the graphical interface, which let users operate computers by clicking on images instead of writing text.

Apple's pioneering Macintosh computer launched in early 1984 with a now-iconic, Orwellian-themed Super Bowl ad. The boxy beige Macintosh sold well, but the demanding Jobs clashed frequently with colleagues, and in 1986, he was ousted from Apple after a power struggle.

Then came a 10-year hiatus during which he founded NeXT Computer, whose pricey, cube-shaped computer workstations never caught on with consumers.

Jobs had more success when he bought Pixar Animation Studios from George Lucas before the company made it big with "Toy Story." Jobs brought the same marketing skill to Pixar that he became known for at Apple. His brief but emotional pitch for "Finding Nemo," for example, was a masterful bit of succinct storytelling.

Share your memories and images of Steve Jobs

In 1996, Apple bought NeXT, returning Jobs to the then-struggling company he had co-founded. Within a year, he was running Apple again -- older and perhaps wiser but no less of a perfectionist. And in 2001, he took the stage to introduce the original iPod, the little white device that transformed portable music and kick-started Apple's furious comeback.

Thus began one of the most remarkable second acts in the history of business. Over the next decade, Jobs wowed launch-event audiences, and consumers, with one game-changing hit after another: iTunes (2003), the iPhone (2007), the App Store (2008), and the iPad (2010).

Review Jobs' top moments as a showman

Observers marveled at Jobs' skills as a pitchman, his ability to inspire godlike devotion among Apple "fanboys" (and scorn from PC fans) and his "one more thing" surprise announcements. Time after time, he sold people on a product they didn't know they needed until he invented it. And all this on an official annual salary of $1.

He also built a reputation as a hard-driving, mercurial and sometimes difficult boss who oversaw almost every detail of Apple's products and rejected prototypes that didn't meet his exacting standards.

By the late 2000s, his once-renegade tech company, the David to Microsoft's Goliath, was entrenched at the uppermost tier of American business. Apple now operates more than 300 retail stores in 11 countries. The company has sold more than 275 million iPods, 100 million iPhones and 25 million iPads worldwide.

Jobs' climb to the top was complete in summer 2011, when Apple listed more cash reserves than the U.S. Treasury and even briefly surpassed Exxon Mobil as the world's most valuable company.

CNNMoney.com: Apple stock under Jobs

But Jobs' health problems sometimes cast a shadow over his company's success. In 2004, he announced to his employees that he was being treated for pancreatic cancer. He lost weight and appeared unusually gaunt at keynote speeches to Apple developers, spurring concerns about his health and fluctuations in the company's stock price. One wire service accidentally published Jobs' obituary.

Jobs had a secret liver transplant in 2009 in Tennessee during a six-month medical leave of absence from Apple. He took another medical leave in January this year. Perhaps mindful of his legacy, he cooperated on his first authorized biography, scheduled to be published by Simon & Schuster in November.

Jobs is survived by his wife of 20 years, Laurene, and four children, including one from a prior relationship.

He always spoke with immense pride about what he and his engineers accomplished at Apple.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do," he told the Stanford grads in 2005.

"If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on."

Naomi Campbell's Eye-Catching Fantasy Home

As lavish birthday gifts go, it’s hard to top this one: Naomi Campbell received an island vacation home for her 41st birthday from her Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladislav Doronin, according to numerous online reports. It’s shaped like the Egyptian Eye of Horus on a location known as Cleopatra Island in Turkey’s Gulf of Gökova.

Spanish Architect Luis de Garrido, who specializes in sustainable building, designed Eco-House Horus to be completely energy, water, and food self-sufficient. As with his other projects, he relied on careful bioclimatic design to solve efficiency challenges. The resulting eye-shaped, dome-shaped house has no less than 25 bedrooms and five lounges. If the world ends, Campbell and Doronin and a few dozen of their lucky friends just might be able to survive.

Campbell and Doronin are small potatoes in comparison to the island’s vastly more famous couple (hint: the island is named after one of them). As it turns out, Eco-House Horus isn’t the first time a grand gesture has been made for a ladylove on this island. A long-ago romance might have also changed the landscape of this island.

A representative of architect Luis de Garrido’s firm noted that the structure is “not an expensive house, compared with the level of this kind of house. That is, we can demonstrate that a completely sustainable building [might] be really inexpensive, and also that a self-sufficient building could be obtained by a not too much additional cost (due to a well-studied bioclimatic design).”

Turkey’s Sedir Island, aka Cleopatra Island, has been a resort destination in the Gulf of Gökova since ancient Roman times. The sand on Cleopatra Beach is said to be exceptional, and different from other nearby beaches. Local legend has it that Mark Antony imported the sand especially for Cleopatra herself, who would not set foot on any land that wasn’t Egyptian. The black outline making up most of the eye design is comprised of photovoltaic panels, which works in combination with the geothermal system to provide all of the energy needed for the house.

Rihanna for Armani Jeans

Shortly after launching its men’s campain with tennis player Rafael Nadal, Armani has released long-awaited images for its jeans range starring pop star Rihanna.

The singer is taking over from actress Megan Fox for the campaign, with the second batch of images — for the brand’s underwear line — yet to be brought out.

Rihanna is upping her advertising game at the moment, also having just been named the new face of skincare brand Nivea.

Bugatti Galibier To Get a New Design

The Bugatti Galibier is still in the works but the model being develop differs substantially from the concept we have previously seen. The group has been taking advice about the Galibier’s design from current Bugatti owners, with half of those who own a Veyron having already been inside the new car. Bugatti chief Wolfgang Durheimer told Autocar that the Galibier is still in development and “in its second half of the design phase.”

Durheimer will present the new design to his VW bosses by Christmas when a final decision on production will be made. The new car will be lengthier and provide more rear legroom for the passengers, and that’s the whole point of the car as a four-door version of the Veyron. The original concept car used a 900bhp twin supercharged version of the Veyron’s W16 engine, but the power figures of the new car will ‘be at least four figures’. The luxurious sports saloon is estimated to cost around €1 million (US$1.4 million) when it arrives in the market in 2013 or 2014.
